Ancient fossilized shark tooth. Otodus species, Paleocene to Eocene epoch, 60 to 45 million years old. One of the top predators of its time. This very large fossilized tooth is comprised of one large central tooth with triangular crown, and two smaller teeth to sides. It has smooth cutting edges, and cusp still visible on the roots. Very large and still sharp!

The name Otodus is derived from Greek “ear” and “tooth”, or “ear-shaped tooth”. This species, like other sharks, had skeletons comprised of cartilage instead of bone, so these teeth are usually all that is left of them in the fossil record.

Exact examples vary slightly but are similar in appearance and condition. Each piece is unique, so the one you receive may not necessarily be the same as pictured.
