Roman Bronze Oil Lamp // 1st Century AD
Product Description
An excellent Roman bronze oil lamp, c. 1st Century AD. Nicely made, with rounded body, flat top, and rounded nozzle. Prominent ‘volute spines’ at body end of nozzle, meeting underneath; grooved petals extending to rosette on top of spines. The lamp has a circular wick-hole and a group of three small holes pierced on nozzle top; raised base with internal ‘lathe-turned’ moldings. There is a small triangular handle at back, two small pierced scallop-shaped lugs at the sides. The flared spout is pierced with three small holes, the underside of the spout holed where there may have been an applique in ancient times. The base nicely lathed. Choice patina!
