Product Description

Michel Rolland is a rock star winemaking consultant whose influence is felt around the world. As a consultant, he’s been to four continents and more than 150 different estates, exposing him to a variety of climates and conditions.

Born less than 450 yards from the Pomerol appellation and two and a half miles from Maillet, he grew up walking through vineyards with his grandfather who sold wine under the Château Le Bon Pasteur label. After being introduced to viticulture by his father, Michel studied oenology at the University of Bordeaux, and in 1973 he took over a large laboratory with his oenologist wife Dany in his birthplace, Libourne.

After making wine in Argentina since 1988, Michel Rolland was ready to create a new project from the ground up. Seduced by the gravelly, infertile soil and continental, semi-desert climate of the Uco Valley’s high plateaus, he had a vision to establish something completely different. His driving force was to discover a place that takes the name of its terrior, plant his own vineyard and use his breadth of knowledge to create a winery that takes advantage of its resources. By 1999 the land was divided into seven plots, and Clos de los Siete was born. Michel used 100 ha of the highest elevated parcel, of which 67 ha are currently planted.

Grown at 3600 feet, the Mariflor Malbec comes from estate vineyards on the uppermost section of the Clos de los Siete vineyard in Vista Flores, Uco Valley, Mendoza.

"The 2014 Mariflor Malbec is floral, perfumed and quite showy, quite a contrast with some of the other varietals. The palate shows more of the effect of the élevage, but it's considerably more balanced than the Merlots. It has good freshness.” - Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Beneath the towering Andes Mountains lies one of the world’s most extraordinary wine regions, in the heart of a hot and dry desert. The geography of Mendoza, Argentina, with all its stones and sunshine, has propelled it to become one of the 10 Great Wine Capitals of the World. 70% of the wine from Argentina is made in Mendoza.
